MONTHLY TRANSFER LIMITS

As Internet Service Provider, we need to make sure that the resources on our network are distributed fairly and that no single user has a negative effect on the other users or on the whole network. Therefore, we have implemented "Monthly Transfer Limits" for each user on our network.

Your SmarterBroadband account includes a large amount of data that can be transferred up or down on your connection each month at no additional charge. However, if you exceed this amount, we may charge you for the excess transfer. We have set these limits to be many times higher than that used by a typical customer.

However, it is possible to exceed these limits if you run a server in your home (for example, you run a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol such as KaZaA set to share with others) or you repeatedly up or download enormous amounts of data or huge programs.

Currently, it is SmarterBroadbands policy to warn you the first month that you exceed these limits and charge you the second month. As with all our user policies, we may change this one so if you are concerned about these limits, check back to this page occassionally to see if the policy has changed.

If you believe that your usage will consistantly exceed these limits, you may contact SmarterBroadband at
530-268-8289 to upgrade to one of our plans with greater limits.

The table to the right sets out the current limits. It shows the transfer limit for each Plan and the excess charge.
In addition its shows some of the things you can do within your limit.
