Bursting, a more detailed description. Think of your speed capacity as a bucket and think of your speed as the flow of liquid from the bucket to you. And think of your minimum speed as the rate of flow into your bucket. If you do not use your internet service, your bucket will fill up. When you do use your internet service, you may or may not drain your bucket. This depends upon how much data you download at that time. It could be a webpage, an email or a large data file such as XP Service Pack 2 or Mozilla Firefox. If you do drain your bucket, your speed will not go to zero, it will drop to your minimum because that is the rate at which your bucket fills up. And when you are done with the large download, your bucket will fill up at the rate of your service plan. If you never drain your bucket, you will never see your minimum speed in actual experience. The size of your bucket is set by SmarterBroadband. There is a lot of information in this chart, however it is important to understand the difference between SmarterBroadband's service and services provided by others.
