Bursting, a more detailed description.

Think of your speed capacity as a bucket and think of your speed as the flow of liquid from the bucket to you. And think of your minimum speed as the rate of flow into your bucket. If you do not use your internet service, your bucket will fill up. When you do use your internet service, you may or may not drain your bucket. This depends upon how much data you download at that time. It could be a webpage, an email or a large data file such as XP Service Pack 2 or Mozilla Firefox. If you do drain your bucket, your speed will not go to zero, it will drop to your minimum because that is the rate at which your bucket fills up. And when you are done with the large download, your bucket will fill up at the rate of your service plan. If you never drain your bucket, you will never see your minimum speed in actual experience. The size of your bucket is set by SmarterBroadband.

For most customers the end result is a lightning fast browsing experience, all the time! Most webpages are quite small in size and by the time you've read the contents of that webpage, your bucket will be filled up again. The worst speed you'll ever see is your minimum speed, which is the same as the speed which your bucket fills up and is the same as your rate plan. And this would only happen after downloading a large file. Furthermore, as SmarterBroadband increases its main internet connection (which we need more customers to justify the added expense :-) ), every existing customer's maximum speed will automatically increase up to our maximum.

Motorola's specifications of the aggregate throughput of each 'non line of sight' equipment is rated at 3 Mbps (and our LOS (Line of Sight radios 7 - 14 Mbps). This holds true when in 'ideal radio environments'.

This having been said, SmarterBroadband does not have any control over the internet at large. Meaning, if your downloading experience is less than your purchased plan, give us a call, but the problem is quite possibly somewhere beyond our network equipment.

There is a lot of information in this chart, however it is important to understand the difference between SmarterBroadband's service and services provided by others.

Apart from using the chart as a general overview of how 'Bursting' increases your internet speed and experience, you can to use the chart to review the kind of activities you will be using the Internet for. You will then be able to review the speeds for your personal planned usage. Don't forget, if you will have more than one person using the internet at the same time you will be sharing the connection speed.

Please call us if you have any questions about this 530-268-8289.

The above figures are optimum. Rates may vary depending on network loading. SmarterBroadband reserves the right to adjust Bursting rates as needed.
